Garish Cinema-Oz-like MeadowsSeven deer on the dirt pile just beyond the empty parking lot at 6:30 and then a single deer seemingly stalking me that appeared at the corner of each meadow throughout this morning’s walk, clouds of Cabbage Whites ... more than enough for a gumbo , a weasel stare-down on the trail, juvenile Cedar Waxwing preening, a single morning glory, butterfly eggs on milkweed, chicory and that middle-eastern looking man with the thin mustache, cigarillo, coffee mug and two briefcases.

And last week ... meadows undeered, full-flowered and garishly cinema-Oz-like but thankfully no winged monkeys ... a Red Admiral, Skippers and Clouded Sulphurs on trails lined in raspberry just becoming, thistle, clover, nettle and nightshade at noon as well on another visit a swirled fogging dawn where the dew headed grass narrowed the trails and wetted my jeans, countless tiny orange-bodied spiders hung in the brush, and goldfinch gangs menaced.

Comments:
Phew! I thought you dropped off the edge or something. You took a whole week off. Glad you're still out and about. I didn't know you were such a nature lover. Did you take that photo with your digital camera? And did you hear the coyotes howling last night?

Edge? What edge? Weather here has been so nice ... I can't see no stinking edges ... but I do hear something howling every now and then. Yes, I took this picture but there have been so many I couldn't take that I'm looking to upgrade to a real camera.

Ok .. after stopping by Borders and taking a look at a copy of the Kaufman Focus Guide to Mammals of North America I'm thinking that weasel was a mink.
